How do I clone a story?

Overview

This article explains how to use the Clone functionality in Contently to duplicate a story brief and its content from one instance or publication to another.

Information

The Clone functionality within Contently lets you duplicate a story brief as well as the story content from one instance/publication to another.

In order to clone a story, follow the steps below:

1. Click on "Edit" button in the requirements section of a story.

2. This button will now change to display a "Clone story" button.

3. Click the “Clone Story” button and you'll get a dropdown with two options:

Clone story brief only: This option lets you clone only the story brief and not the story content

Clone story brief and story content: This option lets you clone the story brief as well as the story content

Once you select one of the two options and click "Clone," the "Create story brief" page opens up with the title and story details already copied over. You can then select the publication you would like to clone this story to. When cloning, this will include the workflow of that story. This will include...

  • All workflow steps and assignees
  • Any alterations to your workflow template
  • Duration of due dates between steps
  • This does not include payment in the workflow

Note: When cloning a story the following will not carry over:

  • Version history
  • Activity log
  • Assets
  • Comments

Additionally, the workflow will be reset.
